New obsession

So, as you know I have been bitten by the crafty bug. While I love crocheting, I also love sewing, even though I am still a novice. I had the great idea to make my own shopping bags, you know, save the environment and all, not to mention I can't stand plastic bags. I keep them, to reuse, and they just take up so much space, then I hear that even if you recycle them, which I do, most of them still get put into lanfills. So, I have bought a few bags, but thought, why not use all the fabric I have lying around, bought for various projects that never were. Curtains that will never hang, bed sheets that will never get put on a bed, etc. I found a really easy pattern and tweaked it a bit to my liking (I made it reversable and also added pockets.) I have to say, I am very proud of myself and plan to make several more so I can shop without using any store bags at all!!! Here are some pics of my first attempt.

The boys

I haven't posted pics in a while. I don't have that many new ones of the boys, but here are a few. The ones of Anthony and Nico are some of my favorites. His new thing is to go into Nico's room in the morning when he hears him cry or after his nap when he hears him cry and get into his crib with him and bring some toys along. Nico of course loves it and they spend a good 30 minutes in there playing, reading books, and hanging out. It warms a mother's heart.

All in a days work

So, as most of you know, Dom had his tonsils and adenoids out on Tues. All went as expected and he is recovering nicely. Well, I use that term loosely. He isn't always nice, especially when his medication wears off or the wind blows or something, but physically he is recovering on schedule and that is all we can ask. Joe made a good point as they took him to surgery (on piggyback, by the way) that his voice will probably change after all of this. Since his tonsils and adenoids were so enlarged he spoke very nasally, even when he didn't have a stuffy nose. And I can tell you right now, even though he is speaking with a very swollen throat, his voice is different. Right now it almost sounds higher and squeakier. As if it was possible to make him any cuter, this really tops it off!

I will try to attach a photo of him right after surgery, drugged and drowsy and still holding his popsicle! Very cute!

So, now we try to deal with a little boy who is supposed to take it easy for about a week and an older brother who doesn't really understand why he can't have just as many popsicles as his little brother and also wants said little brother to rough house and play like always. But we are managing. The toughest part right now is that Dom was totally potty trained through the night but being on so much medication he has regressed a little, so, we are changing lots of sheets and jammies, but as long as he is recovering as he should be I can deal with anything.

Aside from surgery and lots of laundry, life is good right now. We just put our house up for rent on Mon and have already had several calls, so this is it!! We can now really start looking for a house to buy. It is scary and exhilerating all at the same time.

We will also be going on our first family camping trip in two weeks. We are going with friends and we are really excited.

That about covers our lives right now. Thanks for reading.

Life and stuff

I watched the most interesting show last night on National Geographic channel, The Human Footprint. Essentially it is a show where they show you, literally by laying things out side by side, how much we consume during our lives whether it be milk, bread, clothing, cars, fuel, diaperes, etc. It is truly remarkable and very eye opening. To see how many quarts of milk you will drink in your life layed out side by side, stretching the span of several blocks, it really puts in perspective the fact that we might not think we have an impact on the earth, but we all do. I highly recommend this show if you need to "see" things in order to really understand them. I mean, I know I need to conserve and be careful with water and resources, but now I have a mental picture of what my consumption looks like, and it is scary! Check it out.

My new venture

Hi all. Ok, so I have been bitten by the crafty bug and thought, hey, why not try to make a little money while I am at it? Plus, Lesley inspired me. Anyway, check it out.

Just some things

In an effort to document these hectic days, I am now trying to remember to blog when the kids do or say something sweet, funny, terrible, exciting, etc.

While walking outside one day:

Dom: "The wind is young and I am strong."

While driving in the car as the sun set:

Dom: "The sun is fast"

I am constantly amazed at how my childrens' minds work. They don't have the hang ups we do, they don't have the experiences we do, so their minds are fresh and pure and say what is oftentimes the truest truth.
